See also our Terms of Service.
Scales & Tech is made by the same people as Piano Coach, and the two share one account and one database. If you sign in here, you are using the same account, and your practice history is visible in both apps. Deleting your data or your account in either app deletes it for both. This policy describes that shared handling as it applies to this app; the Piano Coach policy at pianocoach.pro/privacy.html describes the same data for that one.
You can practise without an account. While you are signed out, your takes and scores are not saved. If you sign in, we collect your email address, optional display name, and (with Google sign-in) your Google profile name and picture. We also save your practice results - notes played, timing and grading results - so the app can show your progress.
This app does not use your microphone. It reads your playing from a MIDI keyboard or your computer keys, and never asks for microphone access. If acoustic-piano input is added later, this page will say so before it ships.
While you are signed out, the app may remember device settings such as your input choice, display theme and keyboard calibration in browser storage, but it does not keep your practice results. When you sign in, practice data is stored on your device and syncs to our database (MongoDB Atlas) so your progress follows you between devices and between our apps. We don't run ads, never sell your data, and never send your practice results to anyone. Data only ever reaches the third-party processors named on this page (Google sign-in, Google Analytics, Resend email, and optional AI feedback). Google sign-in is provided by Google under Google's privacy policy.
We use Google Analytics to count how many people visit our web pages, which pages they open, which search terms or links brought them here, and when an app-opening link is used. This tells us which pages are useful and whether they lead people into the app.
It runs on the website only. The installed Android and iOS app does not load it at all.
We run it in its cookieless mode. It sets no cookies and stores no identifier on your device, so it cannot recognise you between visits or follow you to any other site. Each visit is counted on its own and then forgotten. What Google receives is the page address, the app-opening link when you use one, the page or search that referred you, your browser and device type, and an approximate country worked out from your IP address, which is anonymised and not stored.
It never receives your name, your email address, or anything about your practice: not a take, a score, a note you played or a scale you chose. See Google's privacy policy. If you would rather not be counted at all, any browser tracker-blocker or an ad blocker will stop it, and the app works exactly the same with it blocked.
Scales & Tech is free while in beta and does not currently take payments, so no payment processor receives your data today. If paid plans launch later, payment would be handled by Stripe: card details would go directly to Stripe and are never seen or stored by us, and we would keep only your plan status and a Stripe customer reference so we know what you have access to. See Stripe's privacy policy for how they handle payment data. We will update this page before that happens.
Account emails (verifying your address, password resets, security notices, and replies to feedback you send us) are delivered by Resend. Only your email address and the message itself pass through Resend so it can deliver the mail - never your practice data. See Resend's privacy policy.
The app is used by piano students, including children. We collect only what's listed above, show no ads, have no social features, and do no profiling. The one analytics tool we use counts visits to our web pages without cookies or any identifier, so no child is recognised, followed or built into a profile, and it is never given anything about a student's practice. Students under 16 may practise without an account. If they use an account, it must be created and managed by a parent or guardian, who accepts the terms on the student's behalf. Parents and guardians can review or delete a student's data at any time from Settings → Data, or by emailing support@pianocoach.pro.
If you practise without an account, no practice results are stored. You can remove remembered device settings using your browser's site-data controls.
In the app: Settings → Data → Delete my data permanently removes your saved practice data from your device and our database.
To delete your whole account: sign in (in this app, in Piano Coach, or on the web) and use Settings → Data → Delete my account. This permanently deletes your profile and all synced practice data, across both apps, and cannot be undone. If you can't sign in, email support@pianocoach.pro and we'll remove the account for you.
If how we handle data changes, this page will be updated before the change takes effect.
